The Modigliani Institut Archives Légales Paris-Rome is changing seat opening the splendid spaces of Palazzo Taverna in the name of Modigliani. Over 600 suare meters in the heart of Rome, between St. Angel Castle and Navona Square, with finely frescoed salons, restored by the Superintendency of Artistic and Historic Property of Rome, under the direction of Claudio Strinati. They represent a first formulation of what the “Modigliani House” will be. A prestigious choice that combines in itself functions of high representation and cultural promotion, coherently with the history of the place. As a matter of fact Palazzo Taverna was the dwelling of cardinals and ambassadors and, from the Cinquecento, seat for cultural and society meetings, hosting artists and men of letters, among which Torquato Tasso.
The opening is announced for October 2007 with the exhibition “Modigliani and the African spirituality” which intends to go along again the experiences linked to the discovery of the black sculpture on the part of some avant-garde artists who lived in France, in Montmartre and Montparnasse. 70 sculptures will be world premiered at Palazzo Taverna together with the works of those artists who took inspiration from the spontaneous experiences of the natives.
