The organization of the
"Archives Légales
Amedeo Modigliani"
began in 1939 with the arrival in Paris of Amedeo Modigliani's daughter,
Jeanne Modigliani.
Jeanne Modigliani was born in
Nice in 1918.
After the death of her parents, her education was entrusted to her
paternal
grandmother, Eugénie Garsin who was then living in Leghorn.
The young woman studied
in Paris and
dedicated a first thesis to Van Gogh:
a study on the life and work
of the Dutch
artist recognised as one
of the most relevant.
On her return to Paris, her
father's friends
and art historians encouraged her to collect all materials regarding
Modigliani's
life. After long years of research and, by then, in possession of
numerous
and important documents, she published
"Modigliani sans
légende,"
the first biographical
reference
|
without literary
concessions.
In 1983, she created the
"Archives Légales
Amedeo Modigliani,"
a cultural association
registered with the
Paris Police Prefecture, and nominated Christian Parisot as her
official
successor.
The creation of the
"Archives Légales
Amedeo Modigliani,"
upon the decision of Jeanne Modigliani, aimed to classify and protect
the
works of the artist. For 15 years, the association has been
working
along these lines, faithful to its initial objective: to safeguard the
worldwide spread of the knowledge of the artist's works and the
historical
and esthetic information regarding them.
Christian Parisot oversees the
conservation
of the archives which were entrusted to him by Jeanne Modigliani and
carries
on with the work that she took on and continued for sixty years or so.
